Those quirky guys at the Salt Lake City Police Department definitely seem to have an eye for effective PR. The past six months saw monthly Coffee With a Cop public meetings. Now that it's summer, you can have ice cream with a cop while you talk about crime.---

The SLCPD has teamed up with Smith's to offer free ice cream the fourth Thursday evening in the month under the snappy moniker Chill With a Cop.

To chat, visit the deli department of a local Smith's and they'll be waiting for you, with answers to questions you may have about law enforcement and local crime, along with ice cream to combat these soaring temperatures.

Each of the three gatherings will take place between 5 and 7 p.m. The first ice cream fest is June 27 at the Smith's in Rose Park (1174 W. 600 North), the second on July 25 at the Smith's in Glendale (828 S. 900 West), the third on Aug. 22 in the Sugar House Smith's (922 E. 2100 South).
