Greetings, music fans. 'Tis the season to listen to spooky music, but the "Monster Mash" gets old pretty damned fast. So this week, I have a track from
Last Ex's self-titled debut for you. Last Ex is a new instrumental project by Simon Trottier and Olivier Fairfield, both members of Canadian noir-blues band Timber Timbre, who are well-known for their haunting, unnerving sonic landscapes. In 2012, Timber Timbre started working on a soundtrack for the film
The Last Exorcism II—which would have been perfect, seriously—but it wasn't used in the final version of the movie. So what Last Ex (named for the film) did is take those rough recordings and finish them, and the result is perfectly creepy and ambient. Check out the trippy animated video for "Girl Seizure" below.
Also out this week is new stuff from pop-rock band
OK Go, Los Angeles indie-rock/psychedelia duo
Foxygen, Los Angeles punk/hardcore band
Obliterations, Montreal indie-pop band
Stars, and
Pharmakon, the solo project of New York noise artist Margaret Chardiet.
