We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

You can help by making a one-time or recurring donation on PressBackers.com, which directs you to our Galena Fund 501(c)(3) non-profit, a resource dedicated to help fund local journalism. It is never too late. It is never too little. Thank you. DONATE

Booze Traveler (Travel Channel)
  • Booze Traveler (Travel Channel)

It could be the mid-afternoon cocktails talking, but these two new shows debuting tonight on different cable networks sound weirdly similar …

Booze Traveler (Travel Channel) Series Debut: Says the Travel Channel, “While working in the bars of South Boston, Jack Maxwell learned one thing - sit down with a stranger and a couple of drinks, and the whole world opens up. In Travel Channel’s new original series, Maxwell sets out across the globe to find the world’s most interesting beverages and the people who drink them. Over the course of 15 one-hour episodes, viewers will follow Maxwell as he travels to various locations around the world including Armenia, Belize, Lithuania, Mongolia and Nepal. At each stop, he connects with locals, immerses himself in regional activities, learns about the country’s unique relationship with liquor and sometimes even participates in the alcohol-making process.”

Chug (National Geographic Channel) Series Debut: Says NGC, “Is authentic Malaysian alcohol worth climbing a 50-foot coconut tree for? Is it possible to outdrink an Australian beer-guzzling legend? Or to survive jumping off a bar roof in Fiji on a dare? What about going shot-for-shot in an Austrian schnapps drink off? Probably not, but it’s certainly fun to try! National Geographic Channel (NGC) is taking viewers on a bar crawl around the world with traveling ‘drinkaloguer’ and rum company owner Zane Lamprey in the new Kickstarter-funded series, Chug. In the series, Lamprey is motivated by his thirst to try local customs, food and, well, alcohol. He travels by train to an array of exotic and boozy locations and along the way interacts with the local culture and befriends new drinking buddies.”
