The fantastical backstage comedy-drama
Birdman won four awards, including Best Picture, in the 2014 awards selected by the Utah Film Critics Association on Dec. 17.
Birdman also won awards for original screenplay, director Alejandro González Iñárritu and lead actor Michael Keaton. Robert Elswit won for his cinematography in
Nightcrawler.
In other performance categories, Rosamund Pike was recognized for female lead performance for
Gone Girl. Jessica Chastain received the award for female supporting performance for
A Most Violent Year, while J.K. Simmons won male supporting performance for
Whiplash. Paul Thomas Anderson (
Inherent Vice) and Joon-ho Bong and Kelly Masterson (
Snowpiercer) tied for adapted screenplay honors.
The LEGO Movie took honors for best animated feature. In the documentary feature category,
Citizenfour was recognized, while Sweden's
We Are The Best! won the award for best non-English language feature.
The Utah Film Critics Association dedicated this year’s awards to their former colleague, Jeff Michael Vice, who passed away earlier this year.
