What’s new on the tube tonight:

Marvel’s Agent Carter (ABC) Two-Hour Series Debut: Remember Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) from Captain America: The First Avenger (come on, it was only 16 Marvel movies ago)? She’s still back in 1946, trying to get over Cap’s “death” and break into the boys’ club of the post-WWII spy game. Then comes Howard “Father of Tony” Stark (Dominic Cooper) with a job offer she can’t refuse. Like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Fox’s Gotham, Agent Carter faces the challenge of being a superhero-adjacent show with no superheroes, but Atwell makes a fiercly convincing action heroine—and, hey, it’s Marvel. Sold.

New Girl (Fox) Winter Premiere: Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and the gang are back, with guest stars Nasim Pedrad and Zoe Lister Jones, two very funny women from very unfunny shows (Mulaney and Friends With Better Lives, respectively). How many Zooeys/Zoes are you legally allowed in one TV episode, anyway?
