God I never thought I’d see the day that I’d be sticking up for FOX News but this Obama boycott bullshit has just gone too far. Take for example this little call to action I received via email from the progressive Move.on folks.---
“The White House communications director said FOX is a "wing of the Republican Party...let's not pretend they're a news network." To draw attention to its biased coverage, President Obama will not appear on FOX for the rest of this year.
It's about time Democrats stood up to FOX! Can you sign this petition asking Democrats to support President Obama's stance by staying off FOX as long as he does?”
Genius solution: fight bias with bias--that always makes everything right. And to makes things better let’s encourage Democrats to stay off Fox News so there’s no liberal counter perspective at all, making their programs a truly unadulterated conservative circle jerk of republican punditry.
Don’t get me wrong—I generally agree most Fox programming is hardly news. I once thought I’d never seen a more repulsive talking turd than Sean Hannity and then along came Glenn Beck. The daytime hosts, likewise, are just minor turdlings aspiring to the level of empty mouth-defecating rhetoric as their colleagues Beck and Hannity.
Bill O’Reilly on the other hand, I actually kind of like. I still disagree with most of what he says but I think he at least makes some good points every now and then. I read once that he doesn’t believe in paying $4 for a cup of coffee and that’s something I can agree with. Still it is news, if even just barely.
Still the Move.on folks as well as the White House argue that if Fox News is going to act like the PR wing of the Republican Party and just spread lies about Obama then they in turn aren’t going to grace their studios with a visit.
But really what are they so afraid of? From a journalist’s perspective saying you refuse to appear on their shows to me is the same as a “no comment.” Which is an admission of some level of guilt to me.
Even if they are the voice of Republicans, isn’t this supposed to be a bipartisan administration? If you really want to reach out across the aisle it would seem that Fox News would be the ideal forum. If they only spread lies then it would seem the perfect antidote would be the truth and who better to give it to them than Dr. Obama? Unless of course he can’t handle the taste of his own medicine.
