Roller Derby: JCRD & WRD Saturday

Jam-packed Saturday in local women's roller derby comin' at ya: Up Layton way, Ogden's Junction City Roller Dolls play their first bout of the 2010 season; in Salt Lake City, Wasatch Roller Derby play their third (and, technically, fourth). ---

Junction City Roller Dolls teams Hilltop Aces and Railway Banditas face off at Layton's Davis Conference Center (800 W. Heritage Park Blvd.) in their season opener this Saturday, March 13 (doors at 6 pm, game at 7 pm); a portion of the bout proceeds go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Utah Chapter. Admission is $12 in advance, $10 for military folk, $6 for kiddies 12 and under--tickets and info at

Also, Wasatch Roller Derby plays a double-header charity bout at the Salt Palace (100 S. West Temple) in SLC this Saturday: First, Black Onyx takes on Blue Steel at 7 pm, followed by another bout featuring WRD's Midnight Terror taking on--get this--new men's league Uinta Madness. No word on whether the victor of that bout will go on to face the WRD childrens' Junior Wasatch Rollers (who'll be providing the halftime show) or a new pets' league to be determined at a later date. A portion of the proceeds will go the Huntsman Cancer Foundation; tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door, kids 5 and under free. Tickets and info:
