Whitney (NBC) Season Premiere: Did NBC ever finish burning off those remaining episodes of Animal Practice like they said they would? Just curious. Anyway, Whitney Cummings’ Whitney is back for Season 2 ---and, now that you have comparison points like Animal Practice, Guys With Kids, The New Normal and Go On, her li'l sitcom should be looking pretty good right about now (in case you’re not picking up on it, I’m saying all of NBC’s new “comedies” are shit). Yeah, the laugh track—sorry, live studio audience—is still there, but Whitney just ain’t that bad, thanks to co-star Chris D’Elia and the rest of the smartly chosen cast. And compared to Cummings’ other production, CBS’ increasingly annoying 2 Broke Girls, Whitney is downright subtle.
Nashville (ABC) Miracle of miracles, it’s been picked up for a full season by ABC, so maybe you should watch it harder. Sure, Nashville has a few irritating aspects, like the presence of country music and Hayden Panettiere, but it’s still one of the best new dramas of the season—and ABC really has no good replacements in the wings, trust me.
