Hello to all you glove-wearing, scarf-donning, beanie-finding, coat-cleaning, vitamin-taking, paranoid-of-everything-in-the-cold enthusiasts! What the hell, people? The temperature dips and you instantly freak out about every little thing like you never saw it coming. “How dare the weather get cold in November! Who the hell does it think it is? December?!” Might as well think that way now that miles of tinsel can be found at every store in the U.S. and people are already celebrating Christmas like Black Friday just happened. We all want the awesome stuff but never any of the grit that comes with it. In lieu of a 337 Memorial Wall update (going on 5 months now), let's look at some random artwork from downtown SLC I forgot to highlight a couple months ago.


Getting into events, first up on Tuesday, November 18, The Wall at BYU will be holding their own Battle Of The Bands. Now I know, you're not getting your most extravagant or cutting edge groups here, especially since it's being held on campus. But, Utah County has a ton of talent who don't need those items to get over. If you're in the area, check out the competition and see who is coming up through the college ranks. 


On Wednesday, November 19 we'll have two, the first in Ogden at Whitespace Contemporary where the last After-Work Wednesday will be taking place. The evening will feature artists Sean Moyer and Sunny Taylor, poetry and recitations from writers Sunni Wilkinson and JA Carter-Winward, and a musical guest yet to be named. The events total free and will kick off at 5:30 p.m.


On Thursday, November 20, the U of U's Society of Women Engineers will be holding a Self Defense Social. Essentially its a dance where you'll also be able to learn and interact with those learning self-defense techniques. However, they haven't decided the time and place yet, so if you're interested, follow the Facebook invite to find out more.


Meanwhile, the White Fields Community Center will be featuring an art exhibition titled "Introduction to the SLC Art Scene." The title kinda says it all as this will be a group exhibition, giving a look into what's happening locally for those who may not be aware or are interested in both establish names and up-and-coming talents making a mark. The evening will feature several artists in person as well as guest speakers to talk about the work you'll see around you. Tickets are a mere $10, which can be purchased through the center's website.


On Friday, November 21, the Bijou Market will kick off in Provo, featuring over 60 DIY craft makers and exhibitors for two days straight. This is a quick opportunity for you to see out some handmade goods that could serve as potential holiday gifts or just random presents for yourself. Or if you're just browsing, it's totally free to attend.


Meanwhile in SLC, KRCL will be holding their annual Polar Jubilee at Trolley Square. The evening's proceeds will go to help benefit the station as they enter 2015, with a chance for you to meet all the on-air personalities and station staff. The night will feature music by Astro Space Chimp & The Ice Pirates from Saturn, Space Horn, DJ Jesse Walker and Bad Brad Wheeler. Special guest host May Daye as The Queen of Outer Space will be presenting throughout the evening, as well as having the Chow Truck providing food. 


On Saturday, November 22, the Utah Pride Center will open its doors to have a Holiday Bazaar. Join them for an entire day of local vendors offering many gifts that are LGBT friendly, including jewellery, stained glass, wedding decor and catering, prints, scarves, books, artwork and more. There isn't a list of vendors yet, but check out the Center's website for details.


Meanwhile, down at Sandy Station, the Hello Sweeite Podcast will take over the room to present a night of all-female standup comedy for an open mic night. The entire panel will be at the show to support, and participate in the evening, encouraging women (and men) to step up and make the crowd laugh. Did we mention the evening is totally free?


On Monday, November 24, Salt City Slam will take over Weller Book Works for their monthly slam showcase. This month is Persona Month and will feature J Mase III as the guest speaker. The evening will feature three rounds of personal poetry as well from local SLAM artists. For more details on the evening, check out their Facebook event invite.


Of course, Thanksgiving has killed everything in the middle of next week, but the end of the week will give some awesome options for anyone still in town. The first on Friday, November 28, where the Laughing Stock All Stars will take over The Off-Broadway Theatre to perform two massive shows over two days with current for former members of the SLC troupe. Tickets are $8-11 both nights, which can be purchased through their website.


And then Saturday, November 29, is just packed with events. We'll start with the biggest which is the Movember Mustache Competition, bringing the month-long cancer awareness celebration to a close at Poplar Street. Jed's Barber Shop will host the event, with the Salty Saints Social Club & Facial Hair Society making an appearance to help judge the competition. If you wish to join in, sign up at Movember.com.


Meanwhile over at Saltair, Life In Color returns to Utah to have the "world's largest paint party." These events span the globe where you basically just show up and dance your ass off while getting slammed with every neon color of paint at their disposal. I'm not gonna lie, it's super pricey, tickets go from $37-70 a piece. But if you're into these parties, it will be well worth the price.


And then finally that night, something charitable! The Giving Grinch is a 'cosplay for charity" event taking place at Mod A Go Go, where costumed heroes will be taking your donations to the Giving Grinch Charity. Donate your money, food, clothing and toys while also enjoying an evening of entertainment, courtesy of the sponsors below.
