Hello to all you sound-checking, earplug-plunging, band-voting, music-loving, award-showcase-obsessed enthusiasts! A big thank you to everyone who has come out so far to the Best Of Utah Music performances as we're giving you a look at some of the finest music along the Wasatch Front, and I personally hope you can join us for the bands showcases tonight and next Saturday at Club 50 West. Come find me, maybe I'll snap your photo for put you on Twitter. In lieu of a 337 Wall update, here's a random mask I saw at the Utah Arts Festival gallery a few weeks ago.
Getting into events, tomorrow night we have a pair for you to check out. The first is over at Brewvies where the
Geek Show Podcast will be taking over a theatre to bring you... The Oscars. Yes, that horrible four-hour marathon of pointless praise upon Hollywood, brought to you by your podcasting friends and the theatre. The evening is free, you're encouraged to dress up, and there will be free giveaways, but as always the food and drink are not free.
If sitting through a shitty award show isn't your thing, Keys On Main will open their doors on a Sunday to bring you It's Always Comedy & Other Funny Opinions in Salt Lake City. This is actually the merging of two comedy shows from Jordon Mazziotti and Jason Harvey, bringing in a unique lineup of local comedians to make you laugh on a Sunday evening. Its only $10 for roughly three hours of hilarity, you should check it out.
On Monday, Salt City Slam returns to take over Weller Book Works, this month featuring the slam team from Westminster College. This particular team are preparing for the College Union Poetry Slam Invitational at Virginia Commonwealth University and will be performing for you as part of their practice. After that, there will be a Last Chance Slam for those without enough points to earn a national spot will be allowed to compete.
The majority of the week is concerts after that, including second rounds to all of the
City Weekly: Best Of Utah Music showcases. At the end of the week on Saturday, February 28, is an event I can't speak much on (being an employee of
SLUG during the day), so all I can tell you is to check out The SLUG Games
website for more info on their Slash Bash event.
Also happening that Saturday up in Ogden will be the opening multi-game weekend for the
Junction City Roller Dolls, as the league takes over the Golden Spike Event Center to present two days worth of derby bouts. If you've been starving for some derby action, this is certainly the event for you.
The following week we fall back into mostly a concert based schedule, until Friday, March 6, where we have a pair of events. The first being in Ogden with the "Ogden 52" exhibition, a community project with 52 photographers of various ages and skill levels, snapping photos of landmarks, people and other items documenting the city of Ogden. You can check it out at Union Station that evening as part of Ogden's Frist Friday Art Walk, which you should take an hour or so and enjoy while you're up there.
Meanwhile down in Provo, the Happy Valley Derby Darlins launch their season in style with a triple-header at the UCCU Events Center at UVU! The three bouts will feature HVDD teams the Rollin' Rebellion, Daughters of Anarchy and the Sirens of Steel facing visiting competition, head down and support all three teams!
As for the blog, we're keeping things on the fly for you to come check out, I will say it's going to be a lot of theatre over the next two weeks, but we'll also have some interesting surprises for you to read about. As always, we'll see what happens.
