Local Releases: Scuplting Cinders On A Kapix Wednesday
New local music from Kapix, Cinders, The Wednesday People and more.
Memorial Day weekend is usually a time to kick back and do little to nothing when it comes to entertainment. But this week is presenting some tempting offers for release shows over the next few days. We'll get to those in a moment, but first, please browse through the digital discography of online releases that were released this week, then join us below them for concerts.

We kick this week's set of shows off in Provo at Gezzo Hall, where we'll see the latest album from Cinders. This five-piece indie rock band from SLC is currently working with Midvale-based record label Birchbrook Records. The group has made some pretty cool headway in Utah, including releasing an EP about seven months ago called I Could Do Better, which you can hear on their Soundcloud right now. They're about to embark on a small statewide tour over the next few months to hit up every venue they can from Logan to St. George, and they'll be kicking it off with this release show. This self-titled release is their first full-length album, which—based on the single track that's out right now—sounds pretty cool. You can snag a copy tonight as the band performs with Grey Glass and Middle Mountain; tickets are $5, and the doors open at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, we'll see the latest release from Sculpture Club. I already wrote about them in this week's issue of City Weekly, so go read that and then join them as they release their latest album, A Place To Stand. The show will happen at Diabolical Records with Spokenest and Browser, totally free to attend, and music starts at 8 p.m,
Moving to Wednesday, June 1, we have a pair of release shows in the SLC. The first happens at Kilby Court, where we'll see the debut album from The Wednesday People. This is an "under 21" rock band out of Ogden featuring KJ Ward, KailynQuincy and Austin Lowe. The band already released their debut EP, Blue Moon, on Spotify, but now you can snag a physical copy of the album as they play with The Blue Flames and Rabbit opening the show. Tickets are $6 and the doors open at 7 p.m.
And finally, later in the evening, we'll have a release from show Kapix, an awesome SLC garage rock trio featuring Chris Burch, Lance Emmer and Avery Ghaderi. I haven't had the chance to see these guys live yet, but if the single they released last week called "Catch Me In My Groove" is any indication, the live set sounds like it could be pretty badass. The band will be releasing their debut self-titled EP at Urban Lounge with Daisy & The Moonshines, Rumble Gums, and Hot Vodka opening. Doors open at 8 p.m. and is completely free to attend!
