Star Wars dominates the multiplexes, but a couple of celebrated directors also appear in local theaters this weekend.

Only Vittorio Storaro's cinematography salvages the guilt-deflecting storytelling nonsense of Woody Allen's Wonder Wheel (pictured). The potential for a resonant tale about toxic mas-cow-linity is lost in goofy slapstick in the animated Ferdinand.

In this week's feature reviews, Rian Johnson crafts a blockbuster examination of why we fight in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the fanciful fable in Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water falls victim to its creator's limitless imagination.
